• Gate rushing occurs when a motorist (a) drives under gate arms that are being lowered or (b) drives around lowered gates. Several countermeasures are available to discourage gate rushing:
    • Install flexible centerline barriers upstream of the crossing
    • Install a four-quadrant gate
    • Adopt constant warning time train predictors
    • Decrease warning times
    • Install automated wayside horns
